Decarb Technologies Corp. and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Sign MoU to Accelerate CO₂ Utilization Technologies

Houston, TX, 11/12/2025 — Decarb Technologies Corp. has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (U. of I.) to accelerate the development and commercialization of innovative carbon capture and utilization (CCU) technologies.

The signing took place during the Second Annual International Net Zero Workshop, hosted by U. of I. and sponsored by Low Emissions Technology Australia. The agreement brings together Decarb Technologies’ disruptive capture technology and U. of I.’s world-class research infrastructure — including the pilot CO₂ capture plant in Springfield, Illinois.

Under the MoU, Decarb Technologies and the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC) at U. of I. will collaborate on:
Joint research and technology development in CO₂ capture and utilization

Pilot‐scale validation and commercialization pathways for innovative CCU solutions

Scaling technologies from laboratory to industrial deployment to create value in advanced materials and circular carbon economies

“This partnership marks a significant milestone in unlocking the economic potential of CO₂ beyond just sequestration,” said Dr. Nimir Elbashir, Founder of Decarb Technologies. “By aligning our technology with U. of I.’s  technical leadership, we are moving toward scalable decarbonization that delivers real economic and environmental impact.”

“We are excited to advance CCU as an industrially relevant strategy and are proud to partner with Decarb Technologies,” said Dr. Kevin O’Brien, Director of ISTC. “This collaboration embodies our mission to bring sustainable solutions from lab to market.”

This MoU underscores both organizations’ commitment to industry-academia collaboration, and the commercialization of sustainable innovations.
